An Idea…

So this was unplanned. But that's the thing about ideas. They are never-ending and ever-changing. They also come at rapid speed—full force and unapologetic—ready to make a comeback after a debilitating week of massively dropped motivation. And within that week of massively dropped motivation, we thought it would always be that way. “This is the new me,” we said. “My time was there, and now it’s nowhere, and I don’t know how this happened.”

Well, present-day us knew this day would come, even if we didn’t believe it in the moment. Yes, things tend to get a little heavy at times, and yes, the focus was so far out of reach we weren’t sure it would ever come back. Sound familiar? Yeah. I’m writing to you and to my future self when I say this: Yes, that dark feeling will pass. It always does. You haven’t lost any talent, you weren’t a one-hit wonder. Yes, next week will be better. Much better.

Welcome to better, where the rush of ideas flow in so fast, you’ll have to be quick to catch one. Here’s where we’re at now. I love keeping my readers in the loop with newsletters. I made a promise to my subscribers that I wouldn’t bombard anyone’s inbox with them, and I meant it. But I do love when there is news happening exciting enough to share in one. There is, however, one downfall to newsletters. Sometimes, the context within them is a little important. And because it’s a newsletter, that means only subscribers are getting that important information. So, what happens when I send out (what I think to be) important information and then it’s just…gone? What happens if I decide to share a snippet of what happens behind the scenes, or if I want to talk about where I draw inspiration? For example, how will you know that I’ve already said that while I strive to get my books out within a year of each other, I will not compromise quality writing for maximum books published within a certain amount of time? What if a new reader comes along down the line and they don’t get to find out where the idea of Rise of the Ash Kingdom came from because it was sent out nine newsletters ago? What if, what if, what if?

Cue the idea. I won’t be posting all of them here on the website, but I do intend to post the newsletters I feel might hold invaluable (or interesting) information. For those that come later or for anyone who maybe hates newsletters and anything else sent to their inbox. Because of anxiety over notifications, that's why (here’s your reminder to clear out open tabs and red bubbles with too many numbers in them… Please, for the love of God).

So then what’s the point of signing up for the newsletter? Well, the perk of getting the information in real-time, for one. I’ll be posting here behind the newsletter…possibly weeks after they go out, so the information will be old by the time you see it here. Also, alerts, because I’m sure no one is checking my website on a daily basis, or even on a monthly one. Also, also, I won’t post every single newsletter here. So you will be missing information at some point if you decide not to subscribe. But if you’re not all that interested in learning about beta-read sign-ups or ARC copies, or random hellos to check in on things, this might be a good place for you to casually pop in and get updates when you feel like it.

Okay…that is all. I’m off to post the first newsletter I sent out on release day, and then…it’s on to new ideas :)
